'Our Thanks to Ming'

2.12.59pm BST (GMT +0100) Wed 17th Oct 2007

Local campaigner Ryan Bate, who stood in the University Ward at the last local elections, has expressed the thanks of the local party to Sir Menzies Campbell who stood down as Leader of the Lib Dems on Monday.

Ryan said "Ming served our Party well for eighteen months, helping us recover internally from a very bad time. Even in his decision to resign he had the best interests of the Party and of liberal democracy at heart. Our thanks go to Ming and we wish him well as he continues in public life".

The Liberal Democrats have now opened the nomination process for candidates looking to succeed Campbell and following a nationwide ballot of the Party membership, the new Leader will be announced on the 17th December.
