Thank you to all our Supporters!7.47.58pm BST (GMT +0100) Fri 4th May 2007 The Liberal Democrats would like to thank all those who voted for us on 3rd May, we hope to continue working hard on your behalf and representing your interests for the next four years. In Scotforth East and Lower Lune Valley the Liberal Democrats successfully defended our seats, the only change being Stuart Langhorn replacing Pat Quinton who has stood down from the Council after many years of service to the people of Lower Lune Valley. Our fortunes were less positive across the rest of the district: in Torrisholme John Day will return to the City Council but will not be joined by Ian Clift who served the ward for four years till defeat at the hands of the Morecambe Bay Independents. Meanwhile at the University Ward a close contest was further hindered by very poor turnout and the Green Party clinched both seats from Lib Dem candidates Gavin Barrass and Ryan Bate. Commenting after the results Council Group Leader Stuart Langhorn said: "It's very sad that we've lost three seats, but it is more sad that some excellent candidates lost despite superb campaigns and mammoth efforts". He continued "we'll take the weekend to reflect and work out how to go forward, I can assure our supporters this is not the beginning of the end for us here in Lancaster".
