Our Pledge for Students3.19.49pm BST (GMT +0100) Thu 12th Apr 2007 Ahead of the local elections on May 3rd, candidate for the University Ward Ryan Bate has outlined the Liberal Democrats pledge for students not just at Lancaster University but across the City. "It is important to remember Lancaster has a wide-spread student population, ranging beyond the University, with notable examples including St Martin's College and Lancaster & Morecambe College," outlined Ryan, "the Liberal Democrats are committed to making Lancaster and Morecambe a safe, clean and friendly environment for all students. He continued: "That is why we're delighted to include a section, albeit a short one, in our local manifesto outlining our approach to providing for students." The students' section of the local manifesto reads: 'We will continue to work hard for the students of our area in particular Lancaster University and St Martin's College, recognising the importance of both institutions and their student communities for Lancaster and the wider area. The interests of students have been considered in all our commitments to Lancaster's economy, communities and environment. In particular we want to ensure people coming to study in our area can do so in a welcoming atmosphere, with a wide range of opportunities both as students and as graduates should they remain in the area.'
